The Cyclone 18 rig, which is owned by Wyoming-based Cyclone Drilling, was engulfed in flames Sunday morning while drilling the Beaver Creek State 1-36H well for Oklahoma-based Continental Resources about 30 miles north-east of the town of Beach, a Continental spokesman confirmed to Upstream.
A crew from Texas-based blowout specialists Wild Well Control arrived on the location Monday to extinguish the fire, a process that is expected to take up to a week to finish.
Three workers were injured during the blaze, a representative for Cyclone Drilling told Upstream.
Two of them were taken by helicopter to a hospital in Minnesota to be treated for severe burns and the third had minor injuries, Patrick Hladky said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
